Last weekend, from 11 till 13 September, I was on the teachers team during the "Workshop für Posaune" in Hesselberg, Germany. This course is organised by Frank Mowes, webmaster of www.bassposaunen.de.
I like to congratulate Frank for his great effort to make this "Workshop" into a wonderful event. The atmosphere is just super and all is very well prepared and organised.
Also I like to thank Frank for his hospitality for both my son Erik and myself.
This years teachers team:
The main item in the course is ensemble playing. All teachers worked during the weekend with his-her ensemble on as much music possible with a focus on:
- Intonation
- rhythm
- balance
- listening to each other
- technical aspects of the trombone
Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning there were "Basics" with all teachers split up in Basses and Tenors.

Warmup for basses by Javier Colomer.

Warmup with Ben for basstrombones.
Al the ensembles worked extremely hard during this weekend and prepared some pieces for the Sunday morning concert.

This time my son Erik joined me on my trip to Hesselberg. Erik started to play the trombone 6 month ago. He joined the ensemble of Ina and had the time of his life. Besides that we had a great time together. Erik also took all the pictures in this article.

Hesselberg is a very nice place to be and the surrounding are awesome. Located in Bavaria near to Nuremberg the nature is beautiful.
Here are some nice picture Erik took:

All participants, 72 trombone lovers, and the 7 teachers had a great time and enjoyed the spare free moments they had.

Frank and Christof.

Javi, Ben and Michael. 3 Thein artists in 1 workshop having a great time.

Erik and Ina, who studied with me in Holland some 15 years ago for a short time.
She still speaks pretty good Dutch and helped Erik in his first ensemble playing experience.

Frank, Ben, Heinrich Thein and Javi.
Saturday evening the teachers played a small concert, prepared in less then 1 hour.
For most of us it was the first time we played together but it was obvious all were very experienced and the concert was very well received.

Sunday-morning was concert time for the participants. Although the general level of the participants is amateur, there were some really great moments in every group.
Here is a photo compilation of this the concert:

During the course everybody was welcome at the Thein booth. Many instruments and mouthpieces were tried out and all were helped in this by Heinrich Thein.
