It was a pleasure having Ben van Dijk come to Julliard and it was extremely valuable for the students. The class enthusiastically received his recital and presentation of the contra bass trombone and I was honoured to play with Mr. van Dijk in a wonderful duet. He truly is a great artist and we hope to see more of him in the United States. I hope to be involved with Ben's CD project of the contrabass trombone.
Joseph Alessi
Principal Trombone New York Philharmonic Professor Julliard School of Music Thank you for your excellent concert and master class. Your performances with my students and the trombone section from the Cleveland Orchestra were an inspiration and a great joy to all of us. I am sure none of us have heard better contra bass trombone playing anywhere at any time. Do come back to Oberlin again, soon.
Raymond Premru
Professor of Trombone Oberlin Conservatory of MusicRaymond Premru, ex-bass trombonist of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Philip Jones Brass Ensemble passed away on Friday 8th May 1998. Everyone was excited after your fantastic master class \ recital and you surpassed all of our expectations, both as a professor and teacher. I received many comments from the students who were inspired to try and emulate your unique talents. The music selections were perfectly chosen highlighting the contrabass in a light few had seen. What a great instrument, what a great player.
Steve Witser
Asst. Principal Trombone The Cleveland Orchestra Professor The Cleveland Institute of Music
We had the pleasure of presenting a performance of Mr. van Dijk and it was a wonderful, rare musical event, which we will remember for a long time. To hear Ben's tremendous tone, volume and musicianship were most inspiring. We feel lucky to have had him and we hope he can come again. Mr. van Dijk is a real musical ambassador for his Orchestra and country.
David Waters
Associate Professor of Trombone Sheperd School of Music, Rice University Bass trombonist, Houston Symphony OrchestraYour visit was nothing less than a revelation for me, personally, as well as for my students. Your playing alone would have provided a great education in excellence and musicality. Besides your wonderful tone and clear, clean technical command, your musicianship and sensitivity proved trombonists are capable and deserving of being on the list of "Great Musicians". What a treat to have a master class given by someone who not only plays with the quality of a world class soloist, but be able to articulate what he does and how he does it in a concise manner! Bravo Sir, BRAVO!
